In February 2024 Beyonc\u00e9 appeared in a commercial during the Super Bowl telecast to announce that she was releasing new music. Immediately after the game, she dropped two singles, \u201cTexas Hold \u2019Em\u201d and \u201c16 Carriages,\u201d on the music\u00a0streaming<\/a>\u00a0service Tidal. Both songs featured a\u00a0country music<\/a>\u00a0sound, leading her fans to guess that her new album, which she teased right after the Super Bowl on her\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0page, would be a country album. The following month she revealed the album\u2019s name,\u00a0Cowboy Carter<\/em>, confirming her fans\u2019 guess. \u201cTexas Hold \u2019Em<\/a>\u201d went to number one on the\u00a0Billboard<\/em>\u00a0country chart, marking the first time in history that a Black woman had topped that chart. It was not Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s first\u00a0foray<\/a>\u00a0into country music; in 2016 she performed her song \u201cDaddy Lessons\u201d with the\u00a0Dixie Chicks<\/a>\u00a0(now known as\u00a0the Chicks<\/a>) at the Country Music Awards. In another Instagram post, she revealed that the backlash she received after that performance spurred her to \u201cdive into the history of Country music\u201d as a future project. She also asserted, \u201cThis ain\u2019t a Country album. This is a \u2018Beyonc\u00e9 album.\u2019\u2009\u201d<\/p>\n

The album\u2019s release in late March prompted a long-overdue conversation about the African American roots of country music. Among the country guest artists featured on the album are singers\u00a0Miley Cyrus<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Linda Martell<\/a>, musician\u00a0<\/span>Rhiannon Giddens<\/a>, and\u00a0singer-songwriters<\/a>\u00a0Dolly Parton<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Willie Nelson<\/a>. Notably, Parton\u2019s classic song \u201c<\/span>Jolene<\/a>\u201d is reimagined with new lyrics by Beyonc\u00e9, and country singer Tanner Adell is among several vocalists who join in on a cover of\u00a0the Beatles<\/a>\u2019 \u201cBlackbird<\/a>.\u201d In 2025\u00a0Cowboy Carter<\/em>\u00a0won the Grammys for best country album and\u00a0album of the year<\/a>.<\/p>\n
