Forests in Greece face many problems that threaten their survival (=\u03b5\u03c0\u03b9\u03b2\u03af\u03c9\u03c3\u03b7).<\/span><\/p>\n

Wildfires<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Wildfires are one of the biggest dangers for Greece\u2019s forests. They can start quickly<\/span> in hot, dry weather and spread (=\u03b5\u03be\u03b1\u03c0\u03bb\u03ce\u03bd\u03bf\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9) fast,<\/span> especially when people aren\u2019t careful.<\/p>\n

In 2023, a huge wildfire happened in the Dadia Forest, <\/strong>where some of Europe\u2019s rarest animals live, like the griffon vulture<\/strong>. The fire burned many trees and plants, hurting the habitats of many animals.<\/p>\n

Illegal Logging and Deforestation<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Some people<\/span> cut down trees in forests without permission (=\u03ac\u03b4\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1)<\/span>, which is called illegal (=\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03ac\u03bd\u03bf\u03bc\u03b7, against the law) logging<\/span>. This can hurt (=\u03b2\u03bb\u03ac\u03c0\u03c4\u03b5\u03b9) the forest by destroying (=\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u03c3\u03c4\u03c1\u03ad\u03c6\u03bf\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1\u03c2) habitats for animals and plants.<\/p>\n

Cutting Down Trees for Farms<\/strong>: In some areas of Greece, people clear forests for farms<\/span>, like olive groves. This can damage (=destroy) the land, hurt wildlife, and reduce (=\u03bc\u03b5\u03b9\u03ce\u03bd\u03b5\u03b9) the number of trees that help clean the air.<\/p>\n

Climate change means that the Earth is getting hotter, and this causes problems for forests. The weather is changing<\/span> in ways that make forests more at risk for fires and other dangers.<\/p>\n
