The group consists of Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning. The group debuted on November 17, 2020 with the release of their debut single, \"Black Mamba<\/a>\".[1]<\/a>[2]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group's name, Aespa, is a combination of \"ae\" composed of the English initials of Avatar and Experience (Avatar X Experience), plus the English word \"aspect\" meaning \"two sides\", which symbolizes \"meeting another self and experiencing the new world\".[2]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ningning was introduced as a member of SM Rookies<\/a> on September 19, 2016. As part of it, she appeared on the Rookies Princess: Who's the Best?<\/em> segment of the program My SMT<\/em> in 2016 as well as having recorded several covers for the Korean animated TV program Shining Star<\/em> in 2017.[3]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On October 26, SM Entertainment announced that it would be debuting a new girl group, the first since Red Velvet<\/a> in 2014 and the first overall idol group since NCT<\/a> in 2016.[6]<\/a><\/sup>[7]<\/a><\/sup> The members were revealed individually from October 27 to 30 (in order: Winter, Karina, Ningning, and Giselle) as well as the name Aespa<\/em>.[8]<\/a><\/sup> SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo-man<\/a> further explained about Aespa's concept in the 2020 World Cultural Industry Forum that was held online on October 28.[9]<\/a><\/sup> A video trailer with all four members was revealed on November 2.[10]<\/a><\/sup> On the same day, the agency announced that Aespa will release their debut single \"Black Mamba<\/a>\" on November 17.[11]<\/a><\/sup> The group made their broadcast debut on KBS2<\/a>'s Music Bank<\/a><\/em> on November 20 where they performed their debut single.[12]<\/a><\/sup> The group also reached number one on the K-pop music video charts of China's biggest music-streaming service, QQ Music<\/a> for three consecutive weeks.[13]<\/a><\/sup> On January 17, 2021, Aespa received their first ever music show win for their debut single on Inkigayo<\/a><\/em>.[14]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On January 29, 2021, SM Entertainment announced Aespa will release a new single titled \"Forever<\/a>\", a remake of a single by\u00a0Yoo Young-jin<\/a>, released for SM Entertainment's holiday album\u00a0Winter Vacation in SMTOWN.com<\/em>\u00a0in 2000.[15]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The single was officially released on February 5, 2021.[16]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The song has been described as a mid-tempo\u00a0ballad<\/a>\u00a0with an\u00a0acoustic guitar<\/a>\u00a0sound and warm lyrics about promising forever to a loved one.[17]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n
