Dionysios Solomos
Dionysios Solomos was born in on April 8 1798 and died in on February 9 1857.He was a Greek poet from Zakynthos.His rich father Nikolaos Solomos and his housekeeper Angeliki Nikli got married 2 days before his death.
Solomos went to Italy and finished his high-school studies in 1815. In November 1815, Solomos joined Pavia Law University and graduated in 1817. He spoke Italian very well so he started writing poems in Italian.
He is best known for writing the Hymn to Liberty. Ýmnos eis tīn Eleutherían, of which the first two turns became the Greek and Cypriot national anthem in 1865.
