Teachers must help pupils to grasp the technical aspects of AI, and to understand its broader societal, ethical and economic implications.<\/p>\n<p>Several Erasmus+ projects already focus on different aspects of AI in education, with a common objective to help teachers and schools get prepared for the\u00a0<strong>opportunities and challenges<\/strong>\u00a0that AI generates.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Getting familiar with AI from an early age<\/h3>\n<p>The \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.im-not-a-robot.eu\/en\/node\/2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I\u2019m not a Robot<\/a>\u2019 project posed the question of how to responsibly introduce\u00a0<strong>AI and digital media in early childhood education<\/strong>. It has created\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.im-not-a-robot.eu\/en\/toolboxes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">12 toolboxes<\/a>\u00a0of materials for nursery teachers based on questions from children who are interested in robots, such as how does a robot think? Can a robot be my friend? What does a robot eat?<\/p>\n<p>The toolboxes provide practical methods, materials and media for activities that children can use to work on these questions. To support teachers in using them, the project has created an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.im-not-a-robot.eu\/en\/elearning-platform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eLearning platform<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To support\u00a0<strong>the first generation to grow up in the AI era,<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/generation-ai.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Generation AI<\/a>\u00a0project focused on primary school teachers and pupils. The project helped them understand the basic principles of AI and become more critical consumers of technology applications throughout their lives. It\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/generation-ai.eu\/outputs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">produced<\/a>\u00a0a toolkit, guides for teachers and schools and an eLearning platform adapted to different levels of primary education.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Is AI always ethical?\" width=\"760\" height=\"428\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qgtUSm0Jhzc?start=19&feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<article class=\"align-center\">\n<div class=\"field field--name-oe-media-oembed-video field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item\"><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Innovative AI-based tools<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ai4edu.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI4EDU<\/a>\u00a0project sets out to develop, implement and evaluate next-generation\u00a0<strong>conversational AI-powered educational assistants<\/strong>. These AI assistants are designed to conversationally interact with students and teachers as engaging, flexible and reliable partners. The two technical solutions will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ai4edu.eu\/service\/study_buddy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Study Buddy<\/a>: as an example, helping students to summarise content in textbooks or explain key concepts following a pedagogical framework and curriculum-relevant learning scenarios in different school subjects.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ai4edu.eu\/service\/teacher_workmate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teacher Workmate<\/a>: supporting teachers in assessment tasks (e.g. by producing and administering questions), grading short open-ended answers and tracking students\u2019 learning progress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Building the AI capacity of teachers and schools<\/h3>\n<p>To help teachers and school leaders face the era of AI with\u00a0<strong>right skills and confidence<\/strong>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ai4t.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI4T (AI for Teachers)<\/a>\u00a0project has developed various materials and resources. An\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ai4t.eu\/teacher-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online course<\/a>\u00a0has been designed to teach AI basics and the challenges of using AI tools in education.<\/p>\n<p>Teachers can deepen their knowledge using the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ai4t.eu\/ai-for-teachers-an-open-textbook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open textbook<\/a>, which helps teachers explain the nature and purpose of AI to their pupils. The course and textbook are available in English, French, German, Italian and Slovenian.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"AI for and by Teachers Mooc Teaser EN\" width=\"760\" height=\"428\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WCVAcoFxjiI?start=5&feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<article class=\"align-center\">\n<div class=\"field field--name-oe-media-oembed-video field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item\"><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<p>Most European countries don\u2019t cover AI in their curriculum yet. To address this gap, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aiwareproject.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AIware<\/a>\u00a0project aims to provide ready-to-use solutions for schools, including a model curriculum and<a href=\"https:\/\/aiwareproject.eu\/en-learning-scenarios\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0learning scenarios and materials<\/a>\u00a0for secondary schools and teachers.<\/p>\n<p>By its completion in 2026, the project will also develop a certification scheme for \u2018AI schools\u2019 and prepare policy and curriculum recommendations for education authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ai4stem.erasmusplus.website\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI4STEM<\/a>\u00a0project introduces AI to pupils aged 8\u201316 through hands-on lessons that combine Internet of Things (IoT) principles, programming and STEM learning outcomes. The project will apply the concept of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ai4k12.org\/gradeband-progression-charts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Five Big Ideas in AI<\/a>: perception, representation and reasoning, learning, natural interaction and societal impact. The project\u2019s planned results include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an educational framework and resources to guide learners,<\/li>\n<li>an online academy for collaboration and learning,<\/li>\n<li>a practical IoT kit comprising components for creating IoT devices,<\/li>\n<li>a manual for teachers on educational resources and hardware.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<article>\n<div class=\"field
