Weki Meki<\/b>\u00a0(Korean<\/a>:\u00a0\uc704\ud0a4\ubbf8\ud0a4<\/span>; abbreviated as\u00a0WEME<\/b>\u00a0or\u00a0WKMK<\/b>) is a South Korean\u00a0girl group<\/a>\u00a0formed by\u00a0Fantagio<\/a>\u00a0in 2017. The group consists of eight members: Ji Su-yeon, Elly,\u00a0Choi Yoo-jung<\/a>,\u00a0Kim Do-yeon<\/a>, Sei, Lua, Rina, and Lucy.<\/p>\n

Pre-debut<\/span><\/h3>\n

The members started out as trainees under Fantagio i-Teen, a rookie talent development program under Fantagio Entertainment, and were known as\u00a0i-Teen Girls<\/b>.<\/p>\n

In 2015, i-Teen Girls members\u00a0Kim Do-yeon<\/a>,\u00a0Choi Yoo-jung<\/a>, Lua, Lucy and Elly (as well as former trainees\u00a0Chu Ye-jin<\/a>\u00a0and Lee Soo-min) had numerous cameos in label mates\u00a0Astro<\/a>'s predebut online web drama\u00a0To Be Continued<\/i>.[citation needed<\/span><\/a><\/i>]<\/sup><\/p>\n

Elly (as Jung Hae-rim), Choi Yoo-jung, Kim Do-yeon, and Sei (as Lee Seo-jeong, then under LOUDers Entertainment) competed in the\u00a0Mnet<\/a>\u00a0survival television program\u00a0Produce 101<\/a>, which aired from January 22 to April 1, 2016. Choi Yoo-jung and Kim Do-yeon were ranked in the final top 11 contestants and debuted in the project girl group\u00a0I.O.I<\/a>.[2]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

On July 6, 2017\u00a0Fantagio<\/a>\u00a0revealed that their new girl group would be called Weki Meki.[3]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

Weki Meki released their debut\u00a0extended play<\/a>,\u00a0Weme<\/a><\/i>\u00a0on August 8, 2017. The EP contains six tracks with the lead single titled \"I Don't Like Your Girlfriend\". The album also features lyrics written by Choi Yoo-jung.[4]<\/a><\/sup>[5]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0A month later, a limited \"B Version\" of their debut EP was physically released. In November, according to\u00a0Gaon Music Chart<\/a>, the EP sold over 47,000 physical copies since its release and marking the highest selling album by a girl group that debuted in 2017.[6]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

On February 21, 2018, Weki Meki released their second extended play titled\u00a0Lucky<\/a><\/i>.[7]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The album features a total of six songs including lead single \"La La La\" and \"Butterfly\", the latter being a remake of an original soundtrack from the 2009 sports film\u00a0Take Off<\/a><\/i>\u00a0which the group released in support of the\u00a02018 Winter Olympics<\/a>.[8]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

Weki Meki released their first single album\u00a0Kiss, Kicks<\/a><\/i>\u00a0on October 11, 2018.[9]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The album features a total of three tracks including lead single \"Crush\" with rap portions on the album written by member Yoo-jung.[10]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

2019:\u00a0Lock End LOL<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Week End LOL<\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n

The group released their second single album\u00a0Lock End LOL<\/a><\/i>\u00a0on May 14, including the lead single \"Picky Picky\".[11]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

On August 8, the group released\u00a0Week End LOL<\/a><\/i>, a repackaged version of their previous album, featuring lead single \"Tiki-Taka (99%)\" alongside all three tracks from the last album.[12]<\/a><\/sup>[13]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

<\/span>2020\u2013present: Continued breakthrough with\u00a0Hide and Seek<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0New Rules<\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n

On February 6, 2020, Fantagio Music confirmed that the group will have a comeback with digital single album\u00a0Dazzle Dazzle<\/a><\/i>\u00a0on February 20, 2020 and confirmed that member Yoojung will join after her hiatus from October 2019.[14]<\/a><\/sup>[15]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

On May 29, 2020, Fantagio released a teaser image for the group\u2019s third EP,\u00a0Hide and Seek<\/a><\/i>, which was released on June 18, 2020.[16]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0It consists of five songs, including the title track \"Oopsy\" and the previously released single \"Dazzle Dazzle\".<\/p>\n

On October 8, 2020, Weki Meki released their fourth EP,\u00a0New Rules<\/a><\/i>, featuring five songs, including the title track \"Cool\" and its English version \"100 Facts\", which is their first song in English.[17]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n
