Pride and Prejudice ” What if ”

Pride and Prejudice is a story that has an excellent plot!

Imagine that, before ever setting foot in Longbourn, Mr. Darcy had already found someone who had captured his heart. Perhaps it was a chance encounter with a young women named Kate who shared his love for witty conversations and intellectual pursuits.

What if…?

If Elizabeth Bennet had said 'yes' to Mr.Collins the plot would be very different. First of all, she wouldn't have married to Mr. Darcy which would result to her not being this rich and overall her life would become much harder as they wouldnt be financially stable. Although with Mr collins she would probably be happier as there would be much less conflict between the two. So we would see a much happier elizabeth emotionally but not economically. So between Mr Darcy and Mr Collins it comes down to money againist emotional satisfaction.

Pride & Prejudice What if ?

The pride and prejudice is a story with a significant plot. What if that plot changed?

If Elizabeth accepted Mr Collin's proposal then mr Darcy wouldn't show any affection towards Elizabeth. Also Elizabeth wouldn't care about Darcy's proposals at all because she  would have married Collins. In conclusion  the story would have ended earlier without the suspense and agony while Elizabeth and Darcy wouldnt end up together something  that changes completely the original story.

Another way that the story could change is if the Bennet familly wasnt in need of money to pay for their house. Then  their mother wouldnt care of forcing her daughters into getting married with wealthy aristocrats. This change would lead the girls into marrying someone they truly love.

What if all the Bennet sisters fell for Bingley

What if, in the book Pride and Prejudice, instead of each Bennet sister falling in love with a different individual, they all fell for Bingley? Then the story would be much more different as the Bennet sisters would compete for Bingley's love and affection. At first, after discussing the issue of their father passing away and learning that individuals of great wealth were coming to town, they all attended the Meryton hall where they would have the chance to meet Bingley. However instead of Jane being paired with Bingley, all of them would try to get his attention by all mean leaving Bingley with a dilemma, either he choses one of the Bennet sisters or continuous to live each encounter with them by trying to ignore the obvious sign of affection towards him. If he had chosen one of them, then the other sisters would continue trying to win him despite the fact that one of them had won his heart. On the other hand, if he had chosen to ignore them, they might have ended up disliking him which would end in their poverty as all of their belongings would pass to their distant cousin after their father's death.

What if Mr. Darcy had fallen for another Bennet sister from the beginning? (Kyriakos, Kostas, Ermis)

If Mr. Darcy had fallen for another Bennet Sister, the whole plot of Pride and Prejudice would have been entirely different. For example, at the ball, the romantic rivalry between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth would have never flourished. Elizabeth would continue searching for somebody rich to marry and love. So what would happen if Mr. Darcy had fallen in love with Jane?

If Mr. Darcy had fallen in love with Jane Bennet, the relationship between Jane and Mr. Bingley would have never happened. This would also alter the plot greatly, as Jane wouldn't get sick going to Bingley's mansion and she wouldn't stay over until she recovered. Also this change could create a relationship between Elizabeth and Mr. Bingley.

What if Elizabeth had accepted Mr.Darcy’s proposal? Marianthi Agiassoti, Malamatenia Tyropoli

Elizabeth Bennet, convinced that security mattered more than affection, accepted Mr. Collins’s proposal. Life at Hunsford Parsonage was respectable but joyless. Mr. Collins admired her intellect but feared her opinions. When Elizabeth later met Mr. Darcy at Rosings, she saw the sincerity beneath his pride—but now it was too late. Darcy, wounded yet wiser, eventually married Georgiana’s gentle friend, Miss Harper. Meanwhile, Elizabeth grew to value kindness over comfort, wondering what happiness she had traded away. Without Elizabeth’s spirited defiance, her sisters followed convention, not courage. The Bennet family was safe, but the world felt smaller—its wit dimmed, its passions politely silenced.

Today's activity is your chance to play with the plot of Pride and Prejudice and the characters’ choices! Form groups of four. We'll be looking at how the characters' relationships and the book's themes would change if a key moment in the story had been different.

Your mission is to write a 120-word alternate reality—a short story that flips a turning point on its head. For example, what if Mr. Wickham had been honest? What if Elizabeth had said 'yes' to Mr. Collins? What if... Mr. Darcy had fallen for someone else from the beginning?  What if... the Bennet family were not in danger of losing their home?
