Approximately 1.5 billion people all around the world speak English — that’s 20% of the Earth’s population. However, most of those people have the English language as a second language and about 360 million people speak English as their first language. Speaking about how many words the English Language has we have to take a quick look at the Oxford English Dictionary, which contains more than  171,476 words. Finally we can say that there are  about 170,000 words in current use, and 20,000-30,000 words used by each  person separately  English Language is spoken in many countries around the world,  include the United Kingdom, the United States,CanadaAustraliaIrelandNew Zealand and a number of Caribbean nations.If you ask now why so many people around the world speak English ,than take a look first at the following map:

On the one hand about 55% of all written contents on the internet is in English. So as our access to technology increases worldwide, there is an increase in a need to know English.On the other hand  if you are able to speak English fluently, you will able to communicate with more people and if you travel to different countries, English is often the most common  language. Finally many schools and universities around the world require their students have a basic understanding of the English language.If you ask me why I"m learning English the conclusion is  because it  is by far the most commonly studied foreign language in the world, and plays an important role in our life. It is understood by many people around the world, since it is the most spoken language. It finally  helps us to communicate with nearly all the people around the world, even through the internet.
