 LEARNING OBJECTIVES

(Colours)
1. to become familiar with weather phenomena and they way they are expressed in English 1. to recognise and name various colours
2. to experience the weather through various games (kinesthetic, auditory, digital, etc.) 2. to raise awareness over the issue of diversity through the story of "Elmer, the elephant"
3. to practise their writing skills on different styles of lines through a weather worksheet  3. to create the image of Elmer through a coding activity and the combination of numbers and colours

WEATHER

Telling the weather is important as it will become part of their daily routine when the lesson begins. I haven't mentioned so far that the daily routines include the following:

  • a 'hello' song
  • saying how we are feeling
  • counting the students and finding who's absent
  • telling the weather, the season, the month and the day.

All of these are added gradually in their daily program and repetition truly does its magic!

So, first we will learn the words: sunny, cloudy, rainy and snowy through the following song and a lot of (flashcard) games.

Now, let's play a digital game!

And here the students are working on a weather worksheet according to their age and level!

Counting and drawing sunrays and raindrops with watercolours!!!

 

COLOURS

After we described Ollie's drawing, we sang a song about it and learned the first four colours:

 

 

"Balloons are red,

The sun is yellow,

The grass is green,

And the sky is blue!"

 

 

Afterwards, we played a kinesthetic game with the following two songs. Look around the classroom, find the correct colour and touch it!!!

Mixing watercolours:

Blue+Yellow=Green

Red+Blue=Purple

Red+Yellow=Orange

Black+White=Grey (the elephant colour!)
