Wednesday, February 25, 2026

Thematic Topic: Healthy nutrition, organic farming and everyday eco-friendly habits

The third day of the Eco Culture Lab Erasmus+ mobility focused on ecology, sustainable agriculture and healthy lifestyles. Students visited Antonis Tritsis Metropolitan Park in Ilion and participated in an experiential educational programme organized by the environmental organization “Center of the Earth.”

🌳 Antonis Tritsis Metropolitan Park

The activities took place in Antonis Tritsis Metropolitan Park, one of the largest green areas in the Athens metropolitan region, located in Ilion.

The park covers more than 1,000 acres and serves as an important ecological and educational space for the city. It includes:

🌿 natural vegetation and urban biodiversity
💧 artificial lakes that support local ecosystems
🚶 walking paths and outdoor learning spaces
🌱 environmental education centres and community gardens

In recent years, the park has been the focus of environmental restoration and bioclimatic redevelopment projects, aiming to improve water management, enhance biodiversity and create sustainable public green spaces. These initiatives transform the park into an example of how urban areas can integrate nature, sustainability and environmental education.

🌾 Experiential Programme: “I Cultivate”

At the Center of the Earth, students participated in the experiential programme “I Cultivate,” which introduced them to the principles of organic farming and sustainable food production.

The activity took place in a biological urban farm, where students learned about:

  • organic cultivation methods
  • composting and natural soil enrichment
  • urban gardening and small city gardens
  • the environmental risks of chemical pesticides

Students also discussed how harmful pesticides can affect both the environment and human health, highlighting the importance of sustainable agricultural practices.

👩‍🌾 Becoming Young Farmers

The programme encouraged students to actively participate in farming activities.

Students became “young farmers” for the day by:

🌱 digging the soil
🌾 planting seeds
🌿 observing how plants grow in organic conditions

Through these hands-on activities, students gained a deeper understanding of the relationship between food production, environmental protection and sustainable living.

The experience helped students develop a stronger environmental awareness and respect for nature.
