Present Simple

We use the Present Simple tense :

1. For repeated or regular actions in the present time.We use the present simple

take the train to the office.
The train to Berlin leaves every hour.
John sleeps eight hours every night during the week.

2. For facts and permanent situations
The President of The USA lives in The White House. (permanent situation)

A dog has four legs. (fact)
We come from Switzerland. (fact)
He works in a bank. (permanent situation)

3. For habits.
get up early every day.

Carol brushes her teeth twice a day.
They travel to their country house every weekend.

4. For things that are always / generally true.
It rains a lot in winter.

The Queen of England lives in Buckingham Palace.
They speak English at work.

5. Timetables
School starts at 8 a.m and finishes at 1:30p.m
The plane departs at 4:30
The train leaves at 2:00

6.Future after when  and until and other time words ( as soon as  etc)
I won’t go out until it stops raining.

7. For newspaper headlines

8. With  non -progressive verbs (believe, expect, etc)
